The ERGOclar clarinet playing support is specially designed to enable the player to keep his or her hands and upper body completely relaxed. It removes the need for the right thumb and arm to support the weight of the clarinet. Instead, the ERGOclar will transmit the weight of the instrument to the chair, or to the belt pouch the player may wear.
Freeing up the upper body can also help the most important aspects of wind playing: breathing and airflow. With the weight of the instrument taken off of the body, the player’s touch and feel for playing are improved and stresses are reduced.
In the long run, the chances to get some playing related pains or even injuries diminishes radically.
You can use either the clarinet’s own neck strap ring, (must be vertical) or the additional ring which comes in each ERGOclar set.
If your instrument does not have a neck strap ring in the thumb rest, you first place the additional attaching ring with an Eye Bolt to the clarinet between the upper and middle joint, above the thumb rest. It is similar with the RMD Riedl Marching Lyre ring, made for diameter 29 mm.
You need 10 to 15 seconds to do this.
This additional ring is included in all ERGOclar kits.
Place the support head, the penguin, on top of the rod and the other spring below the penguin so that the spring is pointing downwards.
Put the support rod inside the black support tube and wrap the rubber band of the tube around the larger and lower screw of the spring lock.
Plug the ERGOPenguin head to the neck strap ring of your instrument (on right) or the Eye Bolt (on left). Press the black button, this opens the slot lock and you can put the neck strap ring inside the slot, then release.
Please note, the balance and thus the feeling to hold the clarinet is different when you use the Eye Bolt from what it is when using the neck strap ring.
In the support rod there is a coiled spring in order to give a smooth and soft floating feel to the clarinet. Your hands and arms are no more supporting the weight of the instrument.
Now the weight of the clarinet is transmitted to the to the chair. Another option is to use the belt pouch and place the bottom of the support tube in the pouch. With the belt pouch you can play standing up, walking, even marching!
You can use also the longer monopod extension (sold separately) and transmit the weight to the floor. With the extension you can play either sitting or standing.
Today we do understand the ergonomic challenges involved in playing. You need some time to readjust your perception about clarinet playing. You need a moment to get used to the different feeling of the nearly weightless instrument. After the readjusting period, you will enjoy playing with less tension.
But like always, it is a lot easier to condemn something new without even trying it out!
That is why we have the 30 days money back guarantee, an easy and safe way to give this new and better way of playing the clarinet a chance. Just click the Order button and get your ERGOclar, the new playing comfort will surprise you!
“The ERGOclar support is quite easy and comfortable to use. I have used it also in the orchestra work. It allows you to move quite freely, so it does not feel restrictive.
The ERGOclar is great for children as it relief them from the pain in the right hand and thumb. It also helps the embouchure because it supports the instrument from below and therefore the mouthpiece is easier to keep toward upper teeth.”
